The Shock Exchange Comes to Harlem tournament that we participated in April 2-3 had some very positive remarks about our showing in their tournament. Coach Ralph Baker does a great job with the tournament in Harlem, NY, and it is the clear top tournament on the east coast.
Here is the link: http://www.newyorkshockexchange.com/content/view/164/37/
Here is the summary on our Game 7 Sharks ELITE team that was written on their website:
"After coming off a positive showing in the Bronx the prior week, the Game 7 Sharks were looking to make a big splash in Harlem. Despite aging in range from 15-17, the team played in the 17U division. Coach Greg Youncofski's goal is to expose his young charges to the best competition and get them battle tested for the high school season. Their approach is similar to that of the New York Falcons and the Shock Exchange in that they both view (i) winning as a process and (ii) success not on the scoreboard but in how much better their kids get year-over-year. The pay off for the Falcons' taking a core group of kids and putting them through the fire was chronicled earlier on our site here http://clicky.me/HdW .
The baby-faced Sharks represented themselves extremely well and seemed poised to pull off the biggest upset of the weekend when they held a double digit lead over Raising Champions at one point and took a four point lead going into half time. The Sharks were shooting a Jimmy Chitwood like +60% from the field and the entire gym was abuzz to see if they could keep it up. However, Isiah Morton (is there anybody in New York faster with the rock than this kid?) and Company eventually turned up on the heat on defense and mashed on the gas on offense to put the Sharks away by 14. What is not question is if that if they keep up this pace, the kids from Neptune, NJ will soon be a force to be reckoned with. And while I'm at it, Mike Aaman (2012), the Sharks' 6'8" "Olstertag Clone" is going to be a serious problem. He demonstrated a high basketball IQ, a willingness to bang with the big boys and a bevy of face up jumpers and back to the basket and power moves against top competition. A face-up jumper here . . . a tomahawk dunk and "And 1" there . . . Olstertag Clone looked like a throwback to the days of George Mikan, Kevin McHale and Hakeem Olajuwon. I am looking forward to seeing the Sharks and Olstertag Clone progress over the years."

Note: The original tournament schedule was changed around.
On Friday night the Shore Sharks started off their Virginia Beach trip with a bang. The 14U team started it off with a 40 point triumph over the Virginia JR Prep All-Stars hitting on all cylinders. The full court press and execution on offense overwhelmed their opponent. The HS team picked up right where the younger team left off with a 15 point win over the Cen-Pen Cyclones. The HS team wore down the Cyclones by getting out on the break and great weakside help on defense.
Saturday, the 14U team had a similar showing in the morning game against a much bigger Virginia Wolfpack team. They followed that up with a win against the Maryland Chosen Ones, holding off their late game rally. The HS ran into a very tough Maryland Spurs Elite team, losing to them in the morning. In the afternoon, the HS team lost a heartbreaker, 41-43, against the North Carolina Ocean Potion Suns. The game was in a hostile enviornment and it was one of the most exciting and intense games in program history.
Sunday morning, on short notice, the schedule was changed around and the 14U team was matched up in the final four against the DC Hoyas, who were also 3-0. The game was back and forth with the crowd against us. The game at halftime was tied 17-17, but the Hoyas pulled it out in the end winning by 5. However, the fraternity of Sharks came together with HS team showing up a halftime and supporting the younger kids.
Overall, the weekend was a success and the Sharks had quality bonding time on and off the court. Every player contributed to an awesome weekend of games and fun.
Special thanks to:
Mr. Dzugan for driving the team van back and forth to different locations and Mr. Anderson for keeping the scorebook at every game.
Thank you to everyone involved for putting together a special trip.
